Best Hospital for New RN Graduates?

  1. 0
i'm currently in the lpn-rn program and i have these reoccurring nightmares of graduating, being hired, excited about my first day as an rn and then realizing that i have no support system, no one is going to help me and may even hate that i'm on their unit. i've worked some as an lpn, but mainly to gain my mandatory 500 hours for applying to the lpn to rn program so i would really love to find out if anyone has any suggestions on what hospitals are good for new nurse graduates? (if it helps, my goal is to work as a critical care nurse--any advice related to that is welcome as well!) thank you!

Everyone was once new, so if they are decent people, surely they will not hate you. I just started working on the floor at a nursing home because the hospitals aren't taking in anyone new! frustrates me!

Im a new grad and just started in the MICU. Before even stepping a foot on the unit I have been in the class room. First week was hospital orientation with check offs on skills, math, rhythm strips, etc. Now Im in a critial care class learning all kinds of things for the next two and a half weeks. After that I will be with a preceptor for about 6 weeks. You will never be thrown out there! I was told that if after my 6 weeks I was comfortable it could be extended until I was.
Right now alot of hospitals in the Bham area arent hiring but I think that will change soon. But incase that happens when you start looking remember to think outside the box! I ended up driving 45 mins to the hospital in the next town. Its been great and I love the people I work with! I wish you the best!!

Brookwood is hiring and is the best place for new grads. If hired you would start in a "residency program" for 12 weeks. This consist of class 1 day a week for 12 weeks along with other things.
If you can get on at Brookwood do it but it's hard to get a job anywhere.

Do you know when the new grad program starts? Is it too late?

I work at Brookwood, and i am not sure how often they start the residency program, but from what i see on the calendar, as far as education days for new hires, it looks like they restart pretty often. I am in MICU there, and love it!

if they are not hiring where yall are at then maybe yall need to relocate. There are tons of places outthere hiring new grads. I see folks around dallas or other places ,complaining that there are not any hospitals hiring new grads. But they wont move to where they are hiring new grads. I say move to where they are, get exp, and move back if you want.

It's not always an option to move especially when you have a husband and kids to move too.

I agreee there, however, then somtimes thats a wasted 2-4 years for no reason. i have 2 lil kids and a gf of 11 years. , we will go where the jobs are if needed. after all we will make more money. provide better for family. Im not spending 2-4 years and and still work for 7-8-9 bucks a hr. thats a insult to me.
