I wanted to find someone that is in the nursing program at JSCC. Would love to hear how you like the program. Is it hard to get into?

I have 3 pre req's to take. A&P 1 and 2 and Micro. Was wondering if they make you take all three before you can start taking any nursing classes?

Im hoping to start classes in Jan. Any info would be helpful for this mom of 3 that is going back to school after 13 years of being out of school ! :uhoh21:

I have no information on Jeff State....but I can offer encouragement!

One of my good friends went there. She did well and they helped her to get an incredible job as a L&D nurse. She has been very successful. While she was in school, one of her professors hooked her up with a unit secretary position.

I hope your experience is just as great as hers!

Go for it! Nursing school is tough...but worth it (I hope)!!!!

hi. i am not attending jscc yet but i have met with a nursing advisor there and plan to apply to the program for january. jeff state bases your entrance eligibility on a point system. so the more co-reqs you have and the better your grades are the better your chances for getting into the program. for example, if you have a&p i and you made an a you would get 30 points. i was also told by the advisor that there cutoff score for being eligible was 175. i hope this helps and maybe i'll see you in class. good luck!

Bmburke!

THANK YOU! I knew it was a point system. Do you know if you have to have all your pre reqs done before they will admit you into the program or is it as soon as you have enough points???

I have taken everything but the biology courses and would love to start some nursing classes before Fall 06 sem.

Best of luck to you and hope to see you in class :wink2:

As far as I know if you have the cutoff points then they will consider you for the program. The more classes you have the better your chances are is the way I understand it.

I am currently enrolled at JSCC school of nursing. It was really hard getting in and it is an even harder program. If you need any other info let me know.:)

Yes, I just graduated from JSCC this past August. The semester I applied, there were almost 300 applicants and 40 were accepted. 20 of us graduated. So, unfortunately, its very difficult to get in and it is definitely a tough program. But, now that I have a few months of work experience (critical care) I feel that the program really did prepare me. I know so many things that I didn't realize I learned in school! I'd be happy to give you more info if you need it. :) good luck to you! By the way, I got through this program while working and taking care of a 2 year old and a 4 year old. So, if I can do it, anyone can do it!!

Good to know you got through. I'm in JSCC right now as a 1st semester "newbie" hahhaa. It's rough but I'm making it. I also have a 2 and 4 year old. Good luck and best wishes in your career!

Thanks for the responses. I will be taking Human Antamony and Phys. 1 this Jan. Can anyone recommend a great professor?? It looks like I have to take this class along with HAand Phy 2 plus Micro before I can apply to the program. I already have a 4 yr degree so my credits are transfering once I do get accepted ( if I do) I will only take nursing classes. Im now worried about getting excepted!!

Good luck to you! Yes, it is tough to get in, but I know that they are beginning to admit students every semester now on the Shelby campus, instead of just once a year. So, that improves your chances. Also, I work at St. Vincents and I read that the hospital is starting a nursing program with Jeff state in the spring and they are offering night and weekend classes. I don't know if this is true, but it's worth checking out. Good luck, contact me if you need any info. :) Hey, and I just found out that I passed the NCLEX!!! So far our class is 100% passing!

I'm currently at Gadsden State getting my prerequisites & will (hopefully) attend JSU Fall 2006. I've talked to the people at JeffState. Is it hard to get into?--the Nursing Coordinator told me that they take 100 students, 50 at Shelby & 50 at Birmingham--out of 100 students, they got nearly 600 applicants. My Lord! You believe that?!? Look on JeffState's webpage, under health sciences & then Nursing. The degree they have gives room for taking your prerequisites (anatomies, micro), but if you can, I would really, REALLY suggest getting them in before you start the program. It would be so much easier & take off such a load if you could just do Nursing classes. Hope this helps! This is the 1st time I've posted in here--I'm so excited to see that they have an Alabama forum!
