Anyone applying for Calhoun ADN- fall 09?

U.S.A. Alabama

Hey! I was just wondering if any of you are applying for the ADN program at Calhoun Community College for this fall....

I just turned my application today, so wish me luck!

Good luck & best wishes to everyone!

When you go & pull the classes for the fall on WebAdvisor, it looks like they are taking 300 in the ADN & 50 in the evening classes.

I think I have somewhere around 150 pts. I made a 99 on the Reading test. On the portion where you get credit for certain grades, I have 2 B's in A&P and I don't get credit for Micro since I'm taking it this summer.

How many do you have?

Nursetobe2... I am also starting at UAH in the fall. Which orientation are you going to? I am going to the one this Friday.

Mine isn't till June 16th. Are you just starting or going back? My orientaion is for transfer students and I think those are at different times. Let me know how it goes?

I am also a transfer student from Calhoun. That is strange that we have different dates? My two options were April 24 or may 1.

That is really weird? Are you in the nursing program at calhoun?

i'm pretty sure i came out with 179 points...177 if they count the college GPA instead of the high school GPA. one of the women in the nursing office (JoAnn Gentry) added them up for me. she said they would take the high school GPA since i will be a freshman. I hope that's the case...

i know a guy who is currently a nursing student at calhoun, going on his 2nd year now and seriously told me to go elsewhere sine i applied at calhoun and wallace at the same time, he told me to go to wallace because of the same reason s above, they talk down on you and they dont teach well, they just sit and receive their paychecks....i got a total of 189 pts....i got As on all 3 BIO classes and im done with all the prereqs since i got a previous degree...hope this helps to other nursing applicants at calhoun. best wishes....

I've heard that too. My Micro teacher told us that they are still in the process of restructuring the program & they are some big changes that are being made. That's part of the reason that they are accepting less students this time. For me, it sounds like what I've already been through & it doesn't bother me. I survived the hell of my x-ray program and Wallace & they straight up told us in the beginning that they would try to make us quit. I'm just leaving it in God's hands. If I get in, I'll handle it just fine.

hi vsblonde... your micro teacher's dr jones? he was my teacher last spring and he is a good teacher, knows his stuff and all....anyways, one of the teachers at calhoun told me to go elsewhere as well...i guess bec of the re-structuring process, i just wish they got everything in onder so we dont have to do this #$%^ and i knw nursing is tough and u gotta study a LOT...A/P and Micro is nothing compare to the core classes. just my .02 cents

Yup, Dr Jones is my teacher. I really like his teaching style so far. I understand how you feel about the nursing program. It's like Dr J said, the nursing program gives you the basics, but how much you learn & understand is contingent upon how much independent study time you put into it. No, I don't want to be part of this "let figure out what the plan is" nursing program, but at the same time, I really don't know what else to do. People obviously pass, or they wouldn't still have the program. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that these changes are for the best & we will succeed!!

we're in the same class together lol.....are u in the morning lab or afternoon lab? i was in the afternoon lab.....and we share the same lecture hour...

I'm in the afternoon lab. Short, blonde :)

I had thought about applying for the Spring program at Wallace, but my hubby wasn't too keen on that. I'm thinking about meeting with an advisor at UAH to see what I'm missing & how long it would take me to get my BSN there. Honestly, Calhoun was my first choice because it's closer & cheaper. But I'll just have to wait things out & see what happens.
