anyone know anything about the "nursing Asst Academy" in Alabaster

Does anyone know anything about this place. They have a huge sign that says Nursing Assistant Academy, new classes stating in March. It is in Downtown Alabaster on hwy 31. I am looking to find a place to get some training so I can get a job in the hospital when I start RN school this fall.

the nursing asst. school is associated with shelby ridge, a nursing home behind the shelby baptist hospital. they will pay for it if you commit to working for them for a year or you can pay 600.00 for the classes which are 2 weeks long

I would not do it. You can usually get a job without experience, just tell them you're going to nursing school.

Most hospitals will hire you as a CA after your second nursing class. There is another CA program in the Gardendale area, but I don't know the name.

You DONT want to work for Shelby Ridge. DONT do their class. I have heard some serious stories about that place from residents and family members where i work. NHS has a class free to anyone offered employment, with no contract. you take the class, train 30 days, then take your test. All while being paid (not much, but its something). They have facilities all over bham and tuscaloosa.

Dont do that crap, if you are a nursing student in clinical rotations, thats like solid gold to hospitals for PCA's. They know you are going to be part time / Flexi, so they don't have to worry about giving you insurance, and they know you will have good training. I worked as a psyc tech at Bwood and I am a Medical Assistant now for a surgeon, neither of which I have "certificates" to do. All you need is to make sure they know you are a nursing student in clinicals.

NHS is Northporth Health Services. www.northporthealth.com They are a pretty decent operation. Product is right though, if you are already in school and have done at least one clinical rotation, a hospital will scoop you up in a minute. They love students. They are cheaper and alot more eager to prove themselves.
