More money in home care or facility?

Specialties Agency

Published

I got my cna license awhile ago. Before that i was working as a home health aide. It feels like im doing the same job. Only more clinical. I work for a home care agency. I have 4 patients a week. Im driving to this city and then another one. The agency doesn't pay for my gas. Thats a big part that i dont like. I feel like working in a facility or hospital would pay more, no traveling (no wasting gas), no dealing with patients calling me any random time like on my days off, and i would have co workers, and it would be more exciting. The only thing i like about home care is that you really dont do anything there. But im tired of dealing with new schedules every month. I was thinking to work at a facility on the weekends. Like 3 12hr shifts. So that way i can go to school during the week. Has anyone seen a difference with pay in home care and a facility? Thanks

In my area facilities pay considerably more and the work is considerably harder.

I do not recommend giving pt's your private phone #. Refer them to the agency #.

Compare driving from one patient to another with the changing schedule that you mention versus working at one facility and having many residents to care for. Facility work is definitely harder than working with only one patient, especially when other nursing assistants call off, and you are forced to pick up the extra assignments. And I agree with the previous post, do not give out your personal phone number to clients.
