Cancelled after being told 'guaranteed' - venting...

Specialties Agency

My agency often tries to book me with a certain hospital - and then I get cancelled at the ol' 0500 wake up call. I then told them 'no-way- ever again - etc'

And of course, I said yes last week to what my recruiter promised me was 'guaranteed' per the facility - or that he would not have called me.

Three days - fr/sa/su

Brutally hard, exhaustive med-surg - too many pts, dumping on agency nurse, the usual - 12+ hours, etc -

Did Sat and Sun - had same pt group - they really needed another nurse and I knew they were hurting for staff.

Sun - crawled out of bed - get the call - 'go back to bed'

Faxed my time sheets - asked to be paid for Sunday as I was told it was guaranteed - and I'd also turned down two other assignments were I usually work over the weekend

Wonder if the agency will follow-through? When does 'guaranteed' mean 'guaranteed'. Probably should have asked if the 'hospital' was guaranteeing it or the 'agency' -

Hard to bank guarantees -

Tell your agency to pay up or else go work for another agency, there are too many to choose from to put up with that.

The word 'guarantee' has always just meant they really really need me so I'm not likely to get canceled...I've never taken it as a promise.

Only with a signed contract would I expect to be paid if canceled. Agency is the first to get canceled in every facility I've worked (except if they are on contract for their hours)

Hey cheerfuldoer, please close those curtains!

:chuckle Dance away Renee!! Sounds like someone is feeling better...!

I work nights so the calloffs are not so hard to take. Hated those 5 am calls...I couldn't get back to sleep!!

Agency is not as fun as it used to be...for sure. I've vented a lot about that here already. :imbar

Agree. Have recently experienced being royally dumped on as an agency nurse and I am fed up with that hospital and the staff (the staff after all is doing the dumping).

Am thinking about applying for a per diem position at another hospital, all they require is one 8 hour shift a pay period which will still give me plenty of freedom to just pick up and go somewhere if I want. I can always pick up more shifts if I want, I will get an orientation, will not have to float to other floors, and will be an employee. May still get dumped on as per diem, but at least as an employee should be able to have a little more "say" than as an agency nurse.

If that doesn't work out, then my next stop is Walmart, to apply for a greeter position, hope they don't say I'm overqualified and decline to hire me. :rotfl:

Maybe it's not too late to be a super model? Even though nursing is much more glamorous......

I wish.

Is that true? My dog has recurring intestinal problems and we do fill his "Kong" with peanut butter.

PLEEEEZE!!! It's a joke.

Hey I thought for a moment my sister was dooming her PB fed doggies too....so I'm glad to hear its a joke. (Sometimes these boards don't project the humour intended)

Ashera,

Unless your agency has a contract specifically for you, the word guarantee is just lip service. I know they cannot bill the facility unless you are putting in hours. Should they feel that they are on the verge of losing you, they may have decided to pay you out of pocket.

Let me know what happens?

Day 2 of my "guaranteed shift", yeah, guaranteed to get CANCELLED! I wish my registry could also predict my lucky lotto numbers. I'm maintaining my mental agility by sorting dirty laundry by color, season and a button count.

I have alphabetized my garbage, had my oil changed 3 times this month just to keep up with the gossip at Jiffy Lube, plus they look forward to my homemade brownies. I haven't missed a single episode of Dr Phil and you bet that's worken for me!!!! I even joined the cheese of the month club to enjoy the look on the Fed Ex guys face when he delivers it. I tried to join a local book club but failed the exam so I read them in secret and comment about the plot points to my cats.

I built a bird house out of dust bunnies, match sticks and hair balls. I signed up to car pool the little league team, even though my kid is 17. I call my mom every day to "chat", at least until she got caller ID and never seems to be home . I also look forward to dropping off and picking up the dry cleaning, some day I may find a husband to wear all these lightly starched shirts hanging in the color coded closet.

So, yes I have the life of leisure, you betcha I'm busy, heck, I'm a nurse.

I've just gone back with my agency. I've been with them off and on since 1990. I used to work as a CNA with them and most recently joined as an RN. I've had several offers to work. I accepted two of them and both of them were cancelled. I'm already fed up and don't even bother to call them for anything anymore. You can't plan a life.

I bet I know which hospital chain you speak of.....
