I work for an agency as Rn on the floor. I went to a reahab hospital assignment worked 11to 7 a. It took me 30 min to give report and finish charts. When I went to get my time slip signed it had 8.25 hours on it and the charge nurse said dont bother to put no lunch or .25 hour on the form you will only get paid for 8 hours no mater how much over you work. That made me mad. Then I was expected back for 3t011 shift same day and had not had but 2 hours sleep so I called to cancel or change my shift. I was told by the agency they couldnt cancel me because the hospital wouldnt let them. I was under the impression that with agency you set your own schedule and as long as you let them know 4 hours ahead you can cancle any shift you want. WHat are the rules does anyone know.

sorry, but you called in more than four hours before your shift was to start, there is no such thing that the facility will not let you call in.

The charge nurse can tell you what ever they want, but they are not the one paying the bill for the facility. And if it is not paid by the facility to the agency, then the agency is still going to need to pay you. You are an employee of the agency, not the facility.

This is one facility that I would not consider ever returning to. Hope that you do not as well.

Behavior like that is just not acceptable. And shame on the agency that you were working under for telling you that you could not cancel. You may wish to consider getting rid of this agency as well.

I would have told the charge nurse that I don't work for free. She cannot tell you what the facility will or won't pay. Your time sheet is a report of hours worked, and that includes overtime.

I would put a "do not return" on that facility and be looking for another agency as well.
