I would love to see this thread continue. Would appreciate any input from the experiences and sucessful nurse estheticians here. I have many questions myself.
One of the many questions I have is, how does it work between the supervising physician and the nurse, mainly financially and as far as malpractice.
I plan to so Independant contracting. I will be paying for my own education. I already have a spa to work out of and a medical director (fortunately the spa owner is a nurse and the wife of the medical director.)
What type of percentages wil I be looking at paying out? What is the best type of marketing? How about a website? Is the Chamber of Commerce beneficial?
After paying out $$$ for the 5 day seminar, my funds will be limited.
I know there a nurses out there who have figured things out. We would love you to share you experience and your mistakes so that we do not repeat them. Teach us!

Tanya, the only added comment I can make is regarding the Chamber of Commerce. I did join, with my Legal Nursing Business. It is about $300 a year, here in Colorado's small town (approx. 50,000). I get free advertisement, and also to my website. I did get a website. I did hear (again at the Legal Nurse Seminar) that for a business needed to market, that a website is essential' so I guess it depends on how much marketing you do.

The Chamber of Commerce and the small business association (this one is usually free consultation) have been very helpful with small business education. I have learned a lot, and have made many contacts, in my community.

Have you started your business planning?

I hope we hear directly from other Aesthetic Entrepreneurs.

    Thanks for your response.
I guess the next thing for me to do will to write up a business plan. I will need to educate myself in this area, as all of my knowlegde at this point is medically based.
I did purchase "Small Business for Dummies". It includes a chapter on creating a business plan. I am open to suggestions.
At this point, to me, there are so many unknowns in medical aesthetics. I would love to speak with someone as a mentor in this area.

    Kind Regards,
    Tanya RN

    Tanya:

Try doing a search on the Internet for associations or certifications for Nurses in this field. Mentoring is the way to go for me; I still hold onto a dear friend who was "literally" my first preceptor.

Call your local Chamber of Commerce and see what they have for free. When I went in recently, to the small business incubator (that is what it is called in these parts) for consult (free) regarding an issue I was having. I was given a blank Business Plan. If you have Word Office, yo will have Blank Templates to write one up; it really is pretty cool because it forces you to look at options that are mundane but oh so necessary for establishing a successful business.

There are other resources in Stickies in the beginning pages of this Entrepreneur Forum.

Sorry to all that I off track of the topic of Aesthetics in Nursing. Again, I hope we here from someone to help this poster.

I wanted to say thanks to all of you who have offered advice in this area. I began getting familiar with this business about a year ago. Sharing your experiences has really helped me in my own aesthetic business. I've had my skin clinic for three months now. It is (very) slowy growing. And that is good considering I have done almost no advertising. which brings me to another question. Has anyone tried advertising in the local ad mailers or ad clipper type papers? I see many salons advertising in them around here, so it must be profitable, though I have no idea how much an ad like that would cost. I actually have gotten most of my clients through word of mouth and other client referrals.

Yes, this is true. However, I have not found a post here where someone talks about salary. So, can anybody give me an idea of how much a Aesthetic nurse makes according to experience?

    Thanks!

Hi guys! I am brand new to this forum but are enjoying all the input about aesthetics nursing. I have been a practicing RN for the past 8 and a half years with half my experience in the acute care setting and half in the clinic setting. I plan to go the the Esthetic Skin Institute in June for their 9 day seminar, with my ultimate goal being to own and run my own Medspa. I know it's going to be a lengthy process to get there, and I would appreciate any and all of your input as far as "the best way to start". I have considered talking to some plastic surgeons and dermatologists in my area to see if they would hire me per diem to provide these services to their clients to gain expertise in these skills, and with hopes to one day find a medical director for my Medspa. One question I have for all if you is how difficult was it for you to obtain your medical director? This is my biggest worry as I plan to open shop on the island of Kauai, one of the smaller islands, so physicians are not overtly abundant in my area. I would greatly appreciate any and all of your input.

I am planning on going into the field of Aesthetics, and I will need to attend some kind of training program/school/workshop. Based on your experiences, what is the best choice? Where should I go?

    Thanks!
