Hi I'm a Registered nurse in the UK with 8 years experience, but I qualified with a diploma not degree. Does anyone know if this would make me a RN or EN in australia when i move out in Jan.

Thanks :nurse:

is there any good hospital to apply in NT like darwin or katherine ? big or small hospital will do ?

what do you think is more in demand in NT area ? emergency room nurse or medical surgical nursing ?

Specializes in Med/Surg, DSU, Ortho, Onc, Psych.

markjohn, there is Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and a big new one is in the process of being built.

Any experience in ED or med/surg will get you a job anywhere. Nursing recruiters love nurses with ED experience, preferably 12 months, but even if you have 6 months, most nursing agencies will take you.

Contact Lesley Brown at [email protected] for more info @ the Dept of Health and Families. She will have info on grad nurse programs and employemnt opportunities, or go to: http://www.nursing.nt.gov.au/ or www.nt.gov.au She also sends out a newsletter which I receive, called eMonitor.

Accommodation can be provided @ RDH if you get employed there for about 3 months, then u have to find ur own. Rental accommodation is very expensive up north, but you may be able to go on www.gumtree.com.au to find a share place. Some christian places offer accommodation like YMCA, but I've heard they are pretty bad! Still might be somewhere to start if u really want to go up there.

Hi lisa,

We moved to Adelaide on my visa (457) and we have just got our PR. I am an RN with 5 years experince and I did not have to do any bridging courses. As long as you have over 3 years experience which you have you will come out as an RN. The wages depend on your length of service so you will be in the payscale of an RN year 8 as it carries on from the UK. My husband is also an RN with only 2 years experience and he got a job no probs.

Hope that helps,

Joanne
