Uk nurse wanting to move to America NOW :(

Hey,

Im new to this and not sure how it works but ill give it a go anyways.

My fiancee and i are currently planning on moving to america. ive already applied for and agency and it seems to be taking forever. We started this process last year and it seem all the paperwork is taking longer than i thought. With every step its like im always walking into brick walls. Paperwork taking long, paper work being sent back, my fingerprints being rejected for poor quality 3 times so im still waiting for my ATT letter.And at the minute im starting to loose hope. We both moved back to my parents to save and thinking it would only take a year but the date we have it our heads keeps moving further and further away. Weve just been on holiday to California to check out the scenery to see if its what we want and were happy. But with the holiday im starting to get impatient and im even thinking of temporally packing in my nursing and doing another job just to get there. Ive even looked up nclex prep courses in usa n becoming a student just so i can do my nclex quicker. Weve just got engaged and cant wait to get married but thats obviously all on hold untill we settle down in america.

I guess im just looking for a little support and advice is anyones been through this.

How are you getting sponsorship for visa? Or does your partner have citizenship? Moving to America is a very long process and if you require sponsorship for a visa this is an even longer issue. If you are registering with California there are lots of concurrency issues for all international educated nurses.

All the h1b visas have been applied for 2013/14 and applications will open again in April 2014 for these visas which you require sponsorship from an employer. The job issue in America is just like it is here there are not many jobs and they have lots of new graduates which are finding it hard to find jobs.

I have been trying to move to America from the uk. I have given up at the moment while my husband completes his research but I have gained my registration and passed my nclex so I one step I the process.

As mentioned in the previous post H1b may be an option but to be honest most hospitals will go straight for greencard and nurses generally come under EB3 and current processing times for that is 6 plus years and that is after finding a employer and they start the application process. CA I think you will find issues on getting a employer willing to go the immigrant or work visa route due to the high amount of nurses currently struggling to find work

So as mentioned by the previous post what route are you looking to move to the US with?

Im currently with nurses4america. They put your application through to Michigan. Michigan is apparently easier to get into. Then you can they change states after you have passed your exam or something. Im on the verge of quitting myself because it just seems its one thing after the other but i really want to go. We have even thought of going to canada for a while then applying to go to america? I knew it wasnt going to be easy but i never realised it would be this draining.

Wow. Back to posters wanting to use Canada as a stepping stone to the US.

We are a perfectly nice country that lots of people are happy and proud to live in.

Doesn't matter applying to Michigan because endorsing isn't always straight forward as many states still require you to meet their requirements especially CA who do their own assessment and currently have been denying many International trained nurses including UK nurses. Plus registration with Canada isn't easy and again many International trained nurses are having to go through some form of assessment and as mentioned nurses are no longer on the skilled list

Once you get over the hurdle of registering in America then comes the hurdle of visas. I think it may help if you read up on the visa retrogression be ause currently there are no eb3 visa available. Look for the visa bulletin and it will show you the dates of visa applications currently being processed. I wouldn't suggest going to Canada as a steeping stone to America. They have the same problems jobs wise and you need to sit a registration exam which is done on paper in Canada twice a year. There is not any way that you will speed the process up. It is going to be a long wait I am afraid to say

I am concerned that after a year with an agency, you said you can "change states or something..."

The process to become registered in the US and then to find a job and adjust immigration status is very complicated and when you add in an agency for which YOU are paying, you need to make sure that you are aware of every single step. The agencies are happy to sign you up regardless of whether you ever make it to the US; you are the one who has to look out for your own interests and educate yourself as to the process.

Hopefully that didn't come across short - I did this and the red tape makes it super difficult without adding in uncertainty of where you're at the the process.All the info is available online, read up.

Also working in Canada doesn't make it any easier for you to become licensed or legal in the US. I'd only consider Canada if you actually want to live in Canada.

If you have specific questions, happy to help. On what immigration basis is your boyfriend planning to go to the US? Even if you got a green card tomorrow, he cannot join you unless he has his own visa.

Candas not an easy option we were looking at it just for the reason to be able to leave my parents and experience something different and eventually move to usa after a few years. Are you marrying a premier league player? There isn't a huge demand for soccer coaches in the US or Canada. Unless of course your intended is in the same league as say, David Beckham.

You sound very young and very naive in your posts. Running away to Canada to get out of your parent's house. Really? That's how this all sounds.
