hey, id just like to ask if the competence assessment program can substitute hospital experience since i hold only 5mos. experience, will i den be qualified to work as nurse in nz with my ielts?

Overseas nurses applying for registration as registered nurses must have:
    • registration with an overseas regulatory authority AND
    • EITHER an overseas qualification equivalent to a New Zealand nursing qualification purpose of assessing competencies for the registered nurse scope of practice.
    • OR have successfully completed a programme approved by the Council for the purpose of assessing competencies for the registered nurse scope of practice.
It didnt say number of years experience required.

    hi narsbing,

shes doing great..they finished the nursing competency program 2 weeks ago...they are still waiting for their practicing certificate. They applied directly to the district health boards when they applied for the hospital jobs...

    hi wishin4NZ,

may i know what will happen to our application if the ielts result is this:
listening=8, reading=6.5, writing=7, speaking=7 , overall bandscore=7. i sent my application last june 23 and my ielts result came out july 23 and they mailed it directly to NZ nursing council.
will they automatically downgrade my application from Registered Nurse to Nurse Assistant due to the 6.5 score in my ielts?
    Please enlighten me.
    God bless!

I think , the NZNC will require you to retake the IELTS since you need a score of 7.0 for each band(if you really want to apply as a RN)..... You can apply as a HCA (health care assistant) but i would not recommend it .Better to retake the IELTS instead..Its better if you email the NZNC directly regarding your queries, they are quick and prompt when replying to emails.. Good luck on your application

    hi there wishin$NZ,

Thank you for your reply. I would like to inquire how many participants attended the competency program with your wife? and how many were filipinas versus other nationalities? Did she go to Manukau Institute or elsewhere?

Again thanks and have a nice day,

12 pinoys/pinays (Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua) + 1 Indian , 2 Kiwis..I suggest that you research about Manukau if you really want to study there...some said that its not a nice place in Auckland.

Thanks for your advice regarding Manukau. How much is the cost of CAP (Competency Assessment Program) in Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua? Do they offer in campus dorm? or they allow students to live out of campus?

Thanks and have a nice day sir,
