hello, I would like to know if a Canadian RN license is required in applying a TN visa? I have a US license but dont have a canadian one, Ayone here successfully getting one? your inputs would be helpful.

i believe so when i got my TN couple of years ago i had to shown my BSN and my state license which i was trying too work in

I mean Canadian license not state license because I already have one. U mention state license. I'm referring if you need to be a Canadian RN.

Canadian license is pretty much your BSN if you have a BSN and are a canadian citizen then you should be fine if not then your out of luck

I have a BSN diploma but I didn't get it from Canada, does that count?

@ tosca rose suggest you ask a lawyer who is familiar with tn visa requirements. We can speculate about whether or not border patrol will issue a TN visa when your nursing education is not Canadian

when you do not have a provincial license but have a state license

when you have a letter of employment

when you have proof of Canadian citizenship

when you have proof of English language proficiency exam

but a lawyer is going to answer based on knowledge of the NAFTA agreement.

I think you should be prepared to be questioned about obtaining your Canadian citizenship and then shortly thereafter applying to work in the US, as it will make you appear to be a citizen of convenience and this is considered offensive, shows a lack of integrity and will likely raise red flags at the border.

Yes, As long as you have your VisaScreen, you will be fine. I recently did this. I have a US license, not a Canadian one.

Hello,

I was reading through your forum and I am going through the exact same position right now. I was hoping you can give me some advise on what you did during the whole process to attain a visa. I have recently attained my US RN licensure in the state of Florida and plan to work and move there. I currently only have a Registered Practical Nurse licensure in Canada. If you can give me any inputs I would greatly appreciate that. Also do we need to get the visa screening from CGFNS?

Yes you will need to get vsc from CGFNS

I have another question for you guys, I currently passed my NCLEX exam for the state of Florida recently. Florida board can only issue me my licensure number once I attain a social security number. Can someone tell me how you attained your SSN. When I had called social security and homeland security they kept telling me that I first had to get an employer and that employer will do the paper works to get that. Is that true? I just want to make sure I am doing things right. Is a SSN something I attain at the border when I get my TN visa? I would love any sort of advise. Thank you!

Until in the US with a valid work or immigrant visa you can not get a US SSN. Your employer can give you letter of employment and after you arrive in the US with valid work or immigrant visa you can apply for US SSN and discuss with employer a start date

Thank you so much for your help!
