New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@ NewMac: Thanks, bro!

@ dreaminOz: Thanks for the greeting and the season reminder. Appreciate it =) ;)

@ marclorenz: I am ETEA-bound this October, bro... so, when's your intake? If you are scheduled for September, then you may likely be classmate with my good bud, drednag. Best of luck in progressing with your next steps.

1. how much is the total money needed for registration? is this right? ( 115 AUD for general registration + another 115 for annual fee for gen. reg. + 220 for overseas assessment charge= 450 AUD)

2. do we send the money in cheque/bank order together with our applications (in one envelope)?

3. how long will it take for us to receive the reply of the board?

4. what are the circumstances when one cannot be approved for registration ( if anyone knows)?

THAnk you very much everyone!!! i would really appreciate your replies...

1) dont know the answer...450 AUD tsks tsk expensive... one thing for sure i know, they will refund you the

registration fee (only) if your application is dissapproved.

2) are nt it supposed to be paid in credit card? nways, it is convenient to pay in credit card, actually you can use your parent's card, seriously u can..

3) reply for approval? no one really knows at this point, my best guess 3-6 months?...

4) fake documents, nursing education of less than 3 years period, non compliance/submission of documents..

historically, phil. BSN education is acceptable to them but just have to undergo BP..

for the application form and those attached documents coming from you, you can send them so that they will be received by AHPRA prior the other docus which will be sent separately and directly by PRC, IELTS..

1) sori.. dont they clearly show in the form where to write it? where in the form did they ask the question, perhaps you write the answer on that portion.. (nway, im not sure, ask others okey)..

2) im sure of this... your answer should be yes... meaning, you promise and commit to get a professional ind. insurance when you start working as an rn in oz.. if you are not yet working there, then no need yet to get one.

[color=olive]once again, thank you so much for taking ur time to reply!:p

hi nathalie,

you don't have to state the state of your choice, that is the point of national registration. when you get their approval you can choose any of their appoved courses which is listed in ahpra site. the approved course list is also categorized by state. and when you are registered, you can practice in any state of australia and even in new zealand.

as for question 18, it asks you if you'd be practising only as an rn whilst you're bound to pii. it's a conditional question, answer whatever applies to you. if you plan to work as an rn only then yes would be your answer.

just my point of view ü

goodluck!

hi dear,

thank you so much for replying!:redpinkhe

i had imagined that with the new law it wouldn´t be necessary to write in which state we wish to practice, but sometime ago someone had said here in this thread that we were supposed to write it in question number 6 in the form and when filling up my form, i noticed that question 6 has nothing to do with it...so i was quite confused at the time....

again, thank you and god bless u!:)

hello everyone! i'm done backreading the partial part of the thread from pages 300 up to the lastest page. i am aware that there are new changes that commenced last july 1 2010. i've already downloaded necessary forms in this venture and i am quite confused regarding some of these instances:

1. under the new rules from the ahpra-nwba, are we allowed to submit the application forms even without the ielts results? (just in case they received my papers then i will take the ielts exam)

2. for cricos bp providers there is a higher chance to get a 457(676) visa unlike with non-cricos bp providers i'll end up with a 456 visa am i right? any updates.

3. about the cv part, as of now i don't have working expierience but next week i will undergo a hospital training for 2 months then if possible it will lead to employment. am i allowed to indicate my current expierience in the cv? no more need for statutory declaration? (as discussed in the cv format from ahpra under gaps in work) correct me if i'm wrong

4. about the agos application form:

-some of the questions here are au related, is is ok to answer them by indicating n/a or other/s

[confused with questions # 6,7,11(is certificate of good standing sufficient),13,16(ielts?),17,18,20,]

5. about the immunizations: is it allowed to provide a photocopy of my baby book (signed by my doctor) or am i required to have a form/check-list (signed by my doctor)

right now i'm leaning towards to the bp rather than conversion....at first i am confused on what to do but upon backreading this thread it shed some light to all questions lingering my head.

thanks!

well dear,

i´ll try to answer the questions i know....

1- yes! u can send the form without the ielts results but i believe they wont assess you without the result ´cos they will assess all ur docs once they are all complete

(someone correct me if i´m wrong...)

2- no idea

3- if u r sending ur cv now then u should write about the program u r about to start taking and write what u´ve been doing in ur gap ( i have the same problem as urs...)

4- nº6: i had the same doubt as urs...answer no ´cos u r not in au yet and bellow provide the address of ur current employer ( at least that´s what i´ll do )

nº 7- ur home address or the address where u want to be contacted by them.

nº 11- ex: title of quali: nursing degree or nursing postgraduate course (depending o what u did last)

( again, someone correct me if i´m wrong...)

- what is ur specific doubt concerning question 13?

nº16- ur answer should be yes if u studied outside au (for ex. i completed my degree in brazil)

that´s why we must take the ielts! go to question 18 if yes

nº18- i had exactly the same doubt.....u should write yes ( read the explanations the others from the thread have given me)

nº 20- it depends....how long have u been a nurse?

if u´ve been a nurse for 0 to five years and has a minimum of 3 mo exp then u should check the 1st box...

5- dunno for sure...

hope i have helped u....:nurse:
