They have revised the US unemployment numbers, it is much higher than first thought.

Before you post, that there are still jobs and you hope retrogression is over. Please think.

These are my neighbors who don't have a job and may loss their homes.

That hospitals are hurting and nurses are also loosing their jobs.

The the US economy has changed and nurses are looking for more work ( second jobs) and nurses are returning back to the bedside.

The trend of importing nurses has stopped and their are no economic incentives for bringing in new nurses ( hospitals could get tax write offs this has stopped).

It is Christmas time, this is only November's number, my guess is December's will be higher. There are families attached to these numbers. How would you feel if over 1.2 million people is your country one month lost their source of income? At and probably to news will be worse!

The Feds cut the Interest Rate.

They are trying to jump start the economy.

yes, that is good news, I am hoping we can redo our morgage at a lower rate. I don't expect the economy to get better until next year ( but I am only guessing since every day there is another major economic issue)

Just spoke to two research nurses in a hospital who learned a week ago that their employer couldn't afford them anymore.

There was an interview on the local news channel few days ago. A nurse practitioner who was working in th county hospital for more than ten years here in Chicago, was laid off because she was too expensive for them. Along with her they also laid off a neuro surgeon and a few other nurses. They closed a unit too.

Hospitals and other employers have been cutting off hours. They make you take your PTO if the census is low.

Employers are negotiating with the new hires for a lower salary..........

Economy has affected the employment of nurses that have no issues with visa. Can't say it will not affect the ones requiring visa.

I think the higher paying positions will be the ones to be cut first, but I can't be sure that it will not affect the ones on the other end of the scale.

Wow Boston Medical Center is where all the charity cases go and they have been supporting a community hospital ( Quincy) which will now probably go under.

The largest group in Boston has a hiring freeze, number and two has lay offs, and now other hospitals are laying off.

heres another one

The President elect yesterday addressed this issue, his goal is to every Amercian employed and it providing incentives to achieve this goal.

The combination of the other post and this one is great news for Amercian Nurses, hopefully we will be getting support to get nurses trained!

It's unlikely. With the increasing unemployment in the US, the new administration will focus on retraining workers to fill available positions. :D If history is any indication, I would anticipate an increase in the number of US-trained nurses in the next decade. :yeah: That would help to boost the American economy, which is the goal of the new president. Increasing the number of foreign nurses while Americans are out of work would certainly not be supported  by most Americans, and the president is aware of this.

Perhaps countries with a gross oversupply of nurses :banghead: can encourage their governments to become more self-sufficient in meeting their employment needs, rather than merely relying on the goodwill of wealthier *winecountries.
