I've been an LVN in Long Beach, CA, US for more than 2 years now Im planning to move from California to British Columbia next year and im wondering....
1) Hows the current hiring situation in British Columbia? Are LPN's still in demand?
2) Can I get a temporary license while I prepare for the board exam?
3) What other tests/exams do I need to take (other than the licensing board)?
4) What is the going rate at the moment for LPN?Last edit by Newpasser on Nov 10, '10

- Nov 10, '10 by OttawaRPNI can only answer #3 for you by providing a link to the provincial college for LPNs for you to start your application process. For IEN, they will individually determine additional educational requirements. For the record, we don't have "boards" - that is an American term, our national exam is called CPNRE.

Maybe someone from BC can answer your other questions.
Good luck. - Nov 13, '10 by OgopogoLPNQuote from NewpasserHey guys

If the CLPNBC approves you to write the exam, they will issue you a one time, interim license that allows you to work.
However, there is NO WORK. NONE. NADA. ZILCH. ZERO. I belong to another message board specifically for BC LPNs and there are many on there, both experienced and new who can't find a job. One has been looking for 2 years. One left and went to Northern Manitoba. Others are contemplating leaving.
They have looked in public health authorities, private homes, priavate LTC, home care, agencies etc. From UBC to Chilliwack. (Basically then entire Lower Mainland). The only excpetion that I hear rumors of (and this is just from the net, not firsthand) is that some applicants are having some luck getting on VERY CASUAL in the Fraser Valley, which is an hour or so East of Vancouver.
Best of luck with your move.

- Nov 14, '10 by lilacloverGood luck, there are no jobs for LPN's in the entire Vancouver area. I know many many LPN's out of work
- Nov 14, '10 by Fiona59What people always forget it management has to post vacant lines, even if they have no intention of filling them.
- Nov 22, '10 by Balder_LPNI live just south of the border near Vancouver, my fiance is Canadian, she lives in Vancouver. We are evaluating options for where we will live. VCH has 8 LPN openings listed right now. $23-25/hr. Most of them are causal, but at least one is perm. I have found at least 4 other LPN openings online and I have only begun to look in the last hour.
SOOOOO..... what is the disconnect here? there seems to be jobs listed, but everyone says there are NO jobs? is it RELATIVELY no jobs, since only 8 openings for who knows how many applicants? or what?Last edit by Balder_LPN on Nov 22, '10 : Reason: omission of specific location - Mar 9, '12 by khernauI am also planning on moving there. So i could benefit from these answers as well. I would also like to know if anyone know a good movers company that can help me move all my stuff.Last edit by Silverdragon102 on Mar 9, '12 : Reason: Link removed
