hi! Ive applied for an assessment for RN in NSW. I can say that I know very much on the how to's in applying for bridging course in Australia since I did it on my own. I got the recommendation letter from the board and was advised to undergo a competence assessment program in the college of nursing in Burwood.

to make it short: (If u want to apply in NSW)

1. Take IELTS first, all 7 on all the components

2. Read the instructions on the website--www.nmb.nsw.gov.au

basically here are the most Important things:

a. go to PRC, request for verification of registration to be sent directly to the board

b. go to your university or college, request for transcript and nursing course description to be sent directly to the board

c. go to IDP or British Council, request for a copy of your all 7 each in all components of your report grade to be sent directly to the board

d. fill up the application form-http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/please-proceed-RN/default.aspx

(with the application form, you need to have it notarised, and pay $105 through credit card or money order etc)

that's basically the initial requirements to be sent to the nursing board

here is the information booklet that will guide you/checklist in filing your application:

http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/Info-Booklet/default.aspx

Assessment is a case to case basis but basically Overseas nurses are recommended to undergo the bridging course.

You will receive a recommendation letter from the nursing board stating the Nursing school that provides the bridging course or the school that you have to go to to get your registration training

Example of the recommendation letter:

I hope that hoychicgracie would update us about her BP in Sydney..Guys do the college of nursing will recommend a school for you or your the one to choose of what school you're going to enroll?

Hi there narscathy! Nope, there's only one school authorized or accredited to hold the Competency Assessment Program in NSW, which is The College of Nursing. That's the name of the school and that's in Burwood, NSW. I guess that's one of the reasons why only a few people choose NSW over other states/ territories.

have you applied with NMB of NSW?

Still processing my application and keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get a slot for the next intake. I'll post some updates once I get good progress. As for why I chose the said University, no particular reason, I guess I just didn't want to bother having to deal with the many options and just opted for one which I think is okay. Well, according to google they are one of the best Unis that produces nurses in Australia. So basically, I just didn't want to give more problems to myself in choosing which Uni to go to. (Already had too much problems with NBV and getting all necessary docs)

You were asking about how to get a job after the BP right? Well, as far as I'm concerned right now, I'm just taking one step forward at a time. I'm sure there are many job opportunities there just need not be picky. And the expiration dates for the schools are the time that they end their contracts with NBV in giving the said bridging program. Some schools though are not offering anymore the program for reasons already mentioned by Chabeli if I remember it right.

Hope I was able to help you out.

Cheers!

@ chokokat79.. No I have not started my application yet. I'm still reviewing for my IELTS exam. I'm weighing my options on what state I'm going to assess for an eligibility.. I'm considering between NBV and NSW..by the way what does NMB stands for? I really don't know what state to choose from..I'm really confused..at the moment I had only 6 months of work experience and that's it. Chokokat79 what state did you choose? and what made you to decide that state? Please enlighten my confused mind. I'm on the verge of collecting ideas and opinions from the knowledgeable people who knows the process from the beginning to start. I would like to say thank you in advance.

@ Haoyin..thank you very much for the informative response. I just want to get some advise from you. I have 2 classmates in my review and fortunately both of them has the 4 years of work experience as a nurse in middle east but the dilemma was that they want to try the student visa route, by studying again for 1 year which will cost them a million or so. On my own perspective if I'm going to venture a big amount I'll make it sure that I'm going to land a job by just applying on my own. By the way are we still required to take the part a exam here in the Philippines as what in Queensland did to their IEN's? My questions are so many pardon me for doing so. Thank you again and God Bless!

@narscathy: I applied to both NSW and QLD. NMB stands for nurses and midwives board. I suggest you apply to both NSW and VIC if you don't mind spending for the application fees. Then whoever responds positively...

Another consideration would be, where do you have relatives? Sydney? Melbourne?

chocokat79.. I really don't have any relatives neither in Sydney or Melbourne. It's a matter of guts and braveness. Okay I'll take your advise though. Thanks for the response by the way.

Do you have relatives in Australia?

Yes I do. That's why I also applied with NSW-NMB. But at first I tried QNC because of all the routes, QNC is the cheapest as you do not have to study for 12 weeks. You just have to take a written exam here and then if you pass then you have to do 160 hours of clinical placement in Queensland. But they're not accepting applicants anymore. This January I also submitted application to NSW. I am now waiting for their response.

Hi there. Newbie here. =) Chocokat79, May I know when did you lodge your application in NSW? I have sent mine a few days ago but I just used the regular mail so I'm assuming it will reach the council 2-3 weeks from now. Please give me updates if you will be granted the letter endorsing you to the bridging program! Thanks, and Good Luck. :)

Hi isobelle! Sent it via courier January 18 or 19 (I think). They charged my credit card January 22 and I received an acknowledgment letter January 26.

Requested IDP Australia to send my IELTS result as well as PRC earlier, on the first week of January via snail mail only. I figured they would just reach NMB about the same time as my couriered application form and the rest of my requirements. :D Good luck and God bless too on you application!

Btw, is BSN your first course?

Yes, BSN is my first course. =) Hoping to catch at least the September intake for the BP. Oh well, I'm still praying for July ofcourse!:) Please, please do update me once you receive the eligibility letter so that I'd know what timeline to expect. :)

BTW, RE: the verification of registration from PRC, what did you ask PRC to send the council? Because what they asked me to fill out was the form for a good professional standing. Paid Php 75 for that, and Php 101 + Php 21 for the mailing, I guess.

Good for you, at least you're not a second courser like me. I am really praying that they assess me as an RN.

What's the Php 101 for? If I remember right, I only paid 75 for the good standing plus of course the snail mail fee :lol2:

Yes that's the only form that I requested from PRC because they do not have a standard format for NMB's Verification of registration. They said that if I have a specific form in hand for them to fill-out then they will do that but since NMB has none then they said that the good standing will suffice. After all it says there that we are in good standing as RNs so that means we're really RNs right? :D

PM me your YM so that we can keep in touch!
