Hi is there anyone here who applied for state sponsorship in VIC or NSW recently? I need insights from you people. Thank you.

You put in expression of interest and then hope that the quotas have not been reached. You need at least 2 years experience in a specialty, they also are not a sure thing if you apply as stated on the website. You must stay in your nominated area for at least 2 years...they do police that apparently.

The other is graduate....there is strong opposition for this especially with nurses as there hundreds of locals that cannot find work without experience, so heard that these expressions of interest for graduate visas without a job, are/hope being knocked back....in Victoria. You also need to stay in nominated area for at least 2 years, difficult if you cannot find a job.

I am currently working in NSW. I was just wondering if it's possible for me to apply for state sponsorship in victoria.

not when you're working in NSW. The purpose of state sponsorship is to attract migrants to a particular state - migrants with "intention" to settle in that state. Victoria's website states that applicants already in Australia should have a job offer or a current job in Victoria to be eligible, or something like that.

Why not try the subclass 189.

Hi Ceridwyn.....I have thought about getting a UK registration but for me - it is yet another way of spending money. I will have a look into it though - it's too late for my appeal case but it's worth a try. Thanks :)

You do not apply for a pr visa you put in an expression of interest and then it is up to immigration to decide if quotas have been reached, therefore no one can do as they did in the past start legal action if declined. Yes I do know of a nurse that has had their EOI declined for state sponsorship and has been told they are in the 'wait and see if an employer needs nurses before you will be offered to take up application and that the EOI is valid for 12 months.

I have not heard of any PR application (err, expression of interest submission) refusal for subclass 189. Given that the quota is not met, which currently at 13,000+ for nurses alone, and you satisfactorily meet all other requirements (security checks, medicals, etc), then you should be fine for subclass 189.

Would be interested on the link with information of 13,000 quota for nurses. The union has been promised that only nurse applicants that needs of the industry dictate who gets an invitation to apply and at this time it is only nurses with specialist skills and much experience are in short supply.

Given the difficulty in employment opportunities for generalist nurses at this time, this should be brought to the unions attention.

it's always been 13,000++ since SkillSelect started last July 2012. Here's the link for SkillSelect: SkillSelect

Just click the tab "Reports", then "Occupation Ceiling" and look for Registered Nurses.

SkillSelect doesn't classify an applicant as a specialist or generalist nurse for subclass 189 purposes. All nurses are classified into one "code". And as long as the applicant gets the required immigration points, then he/she will get the invitation for permanent residency. All they need is a letter from ANMAC stating that their RN qualification is equivalent to Australian standards. So for most applicants, they need AHPRA registration before having this letter from ANMAC.

Subclass 190 is a different story as it requires state sponsorship. Each state has the privilege to select whether they need a specialist nurse or not. On their respective Skilled Migration Plan, they can specify whether they need Surgical nurses, ICU nurses, etc.
