To be working as a nurse, or to be considered for this visa you MUST be registered with AHPRA.

If you are educated nursing or secondary educated from any country in Asia except Singapore you must do a 'bridging' course before you can be registered with AHPRA. The only exception is if you have worked as a nurse in an English speaking country for at least 3 months.

You can however be assessed by ANMMAC but the outcome may be the same, approved if done the bridging course and has passed an english test.

BTW no agency can offer you a visa for Australia, they can only apply for it, be careful it seems they have neglected to tell you a few inbetween steps.

Is there any official document which states this information? I did not find such a document on the AHPRA website. BTW, the "Framework for the assessment of internationally qualified nurses" is removed from the AHPRA website.

Things must be changing...though it is under the ANMAC, revised standards for International nurses - June 2013

Hi! To those who had their medical exams at Nationwide Health Systems in Makati, did you need to book an appointment or just walk-in? Thanks!

These standards are for migration purposes only and not for registration with AHPRA

Hi Ceridwyn,

I also read the revised standards for international nurses and I'm still coming to a loss. I'm a nurse from Denmark and hold a BA in nursing under the EU directive. Which means I should be eligible. APHRA are still insisting on the BP though. I've lodged an appeal and hope to be on the meeting in December.

I agree things seem to be changing....but Australia still needs nurses in regional/rural areas - and they (read APHRA) seem to be doing everything to prevent international nurses getting registration easily. I know they would love to have local nurses - but I'm pretty sure a locally trained nurse from Sydney is quite reluctant to take a placement in rural NSW. I did part of my clinical training in rural NSW (Broken Hill and Cobar) and I only met one (yes one) other Australian nursing student. They just don't want to go to these places - but some internationally trained nurses would do that (I'm not saying all as I'm sure many are seeking the bigger cities as well as the Australian trained nurses).

I'm awaiting the answer from APHRA - and hopefully they can provide a much better answer than the last time. They can refuse me all the want as long as they give me a straight answer - an answer they are not willing to give at the moment unfortunately.

good luck to everyone going through the APHRA-mill :)

That's what the poster was asking, assessment through ANMAC for a skilled visa. BTW. ANMAC criteria is to be exactly the same as that of APHRA, Otherwise it will be difficult if one - registration board says this........and the authority that assess if you can stay in the country long term, for those visa's says that.....

Broken Hill is rather out of the way! I do believe many Australian students go rural and some remote, they have to as clinical placements in the cities are difficult to obtain with increasing student numbers. Also many universities think it is best to go country to see another side of Australian nursing.

2nursing students friends of my family were asked to go to to towns 8 hours and 5 hours from home interstate for a placement.

A midwifery student from Brisbane has gone to Broome the other side of the country 3,500 I'away.

It seems most unfair AHPRA, they will not tell you why, when they accept degrees from overseas countries that I would be dubious if they are universities at all and we would call them private technical colleges, but because they call their nursing qualification a BSN it is excepted.

Why not register with the NMC then you would be fine! As a nurse with UK registration. Just a thought.

Good luck keep us informed.

Hi jems. It is not confusing at all. There is a pdf document there that you can download, it is the 457 visa document checklist. Everything that you will need to prepare is already there. I think the immigration prefers application online. :)
