Help!RN from the Philippines now a Permanent Resident in Ontario

    Hi everybody!!

I ve been reading this forum for a while, searching the different threads but I havent found any that directly answer my inquiry.

lets start with a story: Im a nurse in the Phillipines, batch 2006, graduate of a state university and worked as a clinical instructor for a year. Came here last Nov, and submitted my papers to CNO for the assessment. Now, I am waiting for the result of the assessment. I ve been a housewife since I arrived and no idea if I will be a nurse here or not.

I worked as a part timer this Xmas season in an organization, Salvation Army after my 3 weeks stay.. I was lucky to have a job quickly and after the season,I have no job which I m not having used to. Im trying to find a job in line with my profession, caregiver, nanny etc..

    so the questions are here:

    1. How long will the assessment take place?
    2. What other jobs besides caregiving/nanny could I apply since Im not registered here?
    3. are there members of this forum that has a similar case with me? I really need some inputs and some what to talk to..( talking about comfort and re assurance)

Thanks to all of you! Godbless!

You can apply for any job as long as it does not require a nursing license or approval from the College since you do not have any information from them as of yet. It is usually minimum of four to six months to get everything sorted thru the College to get their approval to even be able to sit for the CRNE exam.

But a quick question for you since you mentioned being a 2006 graduate. Did you write the exam during June, 2006? If so, did you do a rewrite? If not, then Canada is not going to accept anything. They require a local license and if you did not participate in the retake, then your local license was considered by every other country to only be considered in the Philippines and not proof of having a local license for any other country.

We are seeing a four month timeframe lately, not just three months.

There are many here that are working in Ontario now and this is what they have gone thru.

    Hello pickles27,

Good day! I think we share the same predicament. While mine is just a little bit different. I sent an application to CNO for an RPN eligibility last March 31.
I am also an RN from the Philippines and a second courser. My other course is BS respiratory Therpay.
Im not so sure what the assessment is gonna be. But I may be getting a bridging program for PN. Or maybe an eligibility
    ( I hope)

Perhaps the time frame for the assessment is 15 weeks at the most according to CNO.

Good luck on our application!!! Keep us posted once you get the result.

    Take Care!!!

hei rogue! nice to see you here in the forum. Are you here in Ontario now?

Well, good for you that you have sent an application for RPN eligibility. As we all know, our BSN in the Philippines is not equivalent here. But still, I pursued the re- assessment of my case with the help of filling of my BScN equivalency table sent by CNO.

I am now in the process of my RPN application now. as you may observed, I am having an application for the two eligibilities.. which is neat! lets see how it goes with my RN re assessment so maybe I wont be having a 3 years back to school just to be an RN here..

    Goodluck to us!

hi pickles27. so did you have it assessed, and youre now having it reassessed? What happened to the first assessment? What is the equivalency table?

Hello pickles, I called CNO last week and they said their time frame for my assessment is 3 weeks to create a file and 12 weeks for the actual assessment. They also said they only do one assessment at a time so my first assessment s for RN eligibility . Then afterwards i can sent again the A - forms with another assessment fee for RPN. I have less than 3 months more of waiting. Ill let you know the outcome once I get it.

You were a nursing instructor in the Philippines correct, now you are trying to work at the practical nurse level.
To work as RN what school do you have to complete?

I admire you for trying to do the right thing. And best of luck to you,
