If you are planning on working in Minnesota then suggest once graduated apply to state and see what they say.

WOW!!, I find that surprising. I thought that RPN was the equivalent of LPN here in the US. And when I got my credentials transferred, they told me I have the equivalent of the ADN, but I most definitely was already a RN to begin with. Please update us, would be good to hear if this is actually the case.

LMFAOOOO nooo this is a huge misconception the states has RPNS here have most of the same knowledge of what a BSCN has. Not everything, we can’t work in ICUs or work independently in the ER, but we work in surgery, we take care of people with stab wounds, we can start an IV (if we take the course for it). There is barely that much difference of RPN in Canada and a BSCN.

Hah. On my unit, LPNs can be charge. That's it. Oh, and $15/hr.

So would an RPN in Canada be able to transfer their credentials to a ADN-RN in the US?

That would be up to the state and your transcripts

thanks do you happen to know of any canadian rpn/lpn's who were able to make that transfer? it makes sense to me that a two year PN program would be the equivalent of the two year ADN program in america since the canadian PN program used to be a RN program afaik so that's why I'd assume so.

I hope so because I am moving to USA and I am done with the PN program.

Yay that's great! Are you currently in the process of trying to make the transfer to ADN-RN? do you have dual citizenship? I hope so too cause I would like to do the same when I'm eventually done plus there's just too many road blocks to becoming an RN for PN's in Canada. I also know that Canadian PNs do most of what RNs can do and therefore have a wider scope than American LPNs so making the two equivalent of each other would be a demotion.

Hey there, any updates on this? I am finishing my LPN degree in Canada shortly and am interested in transferring to the US. Thanks!

I had the same question about whether Registered Practical Nurses equivalent to ADN RN in States or not. If not, does any online accelerated program in the US to allow us writing the NCLEX-RN? Lots of confusion for the RPN title in Ontario! The rest of the province called licensed practical nurses but RPN in Ontario. RPNs did exactly the same works in the hospital as RNs except for some units.
