am still here in PI so i really dont have any idea my moms in CA.i am having second thoughts in takin my nclex in CA because i dont have a SSN i read in this forum that after 3 yrs if u dont pass you SSN the BON in CA will forfeit your license if u dont give the uy SSN right ?

If you have already paid for Ca then would continue with it and then before your 3 years are near a end arrange to go to another BON. If you haven't paid Ca yet then would consider another BON. With retrogression and high demand of visas then you are, at the moment, looking at more than 3 years before getting a visa

Ok let me get this straight. From what I understand on this thread

1) I'm a U.S citizen studying in a foreign country PI (I can provide social security, drivers license etc...) Any documents if needed

2) I can't sit in for the local NLE because only filipino citizens and dual citizens are eligible. Not U.S. Citizens. I'd have to obtain an ineligibility certificate and have one sent to CABRON from PRC. Besides, English is my first language and NLE exams contain filipino words and phrases.

3) Unless laws haven't changed in CA by March 2009 (Graduation date)

4) FBI finger printing is OK / Transcripts from School to CA BRON are OK

then that would mean, I don't need to take the local exam, but instead take my NCLEX. Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank God for this website.....All these rumors I hear is driving me crazy!!!!!!! That would save me 3-6 months of downtime when I could be working. The local NLE is only given out in June and Dec..From what I heard this exam is taken in 2 days straight. Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ridiculous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A competent nurse is who can perform under pressure. That's what counts, not what school or what score you get on the exam......NLE or NCLEX doesn't screen for competency....I think there's a lot of incompetant nurses going to the U.S. as well as good nurses. Don't get me wrong i'm FIlipino too, but all I hear from my classmates is making the DOLLAR etc..etc....That's when you I start rolling my eyes.. If 90% of my classmates feel this way, then imagine how the entire nursing population in PI feels!!!!!!!!!!-YAY I take my NCLEX soon ..God Bless.....Suzanne thanks for the website awesome!!!!!!!!!!I'll be sending a request soon regarding your NCLEX plan.I'm almost done with Saunders..-Mark

Basically that is it but as a foreign trained nurse it will still take approx 4 months before you can sit the exam. As long as you have no Philippine passport you can not sit the exam

If you have already paid Ca I would just wait and see what happens usual processing times are 4 moths.

Finally got the envelope from CA BRN! Took more or less about 3 months for them to process my application, much earlier than the estimate 4-6 months for international applicants. Got the go signal to register with Pearson VUE for NCLEX-RN, I'm so happy ^.^! I thought I still had to get a waiver from PRC and everything, but seems like everything is all ok now. Thank god. I guess that explanation letter regarding not having the local license sufficed ^^.

Thanks to everyone here who provided all the information I needed. I'm gonna get part-time hours on my job so I can finally start focusing on my NCLEX review. Time to get that Saunders review book out now =).

Just making a reminder before things get out of hand. The member above my post is not a Filipino Citizen, that is why she or he was able to get an eligibility letter from CA BRN w/o having to submit a Phil. license since she cannot take the NLE per Phil. Law.

Those eligible or do not have valid hindrances to taking the NLE will still be required by the Boards to provide proof of passing the NLE per their new policy that they started implementing for all new applicants starting this year.

To make it easy for u guys, just take the local boards because, in the end, it will still boil down to that. The local license will be needed to be able to qualify for a VisaScreen Certificate.

NO VISASCREEN CERTFICIATE = NO IMMIGRANT VISA

Just making a clarification that ICHP/CGFNS is still able to grant VSC if the applicant has not taken the NLE at all and never registered/licensed at all as a local nurse.

Remember, this new policy from CA BRN only started to be implemented this year. All those that were able to get eligibility before by CA BRN usually don't have problems being granted VSC by ICHP/CGFNS so long as the applicant never took the NLE and never registered or licensed to be a nurse in PI. They just make a similar explanation letter they gave the CA BRN and that requirement is waived as long as they meet the exemptions above.

However, you are right. To make it easy, just take the boards.

The first thing that comes to the minds of graduates before was to take the boards as soon as possible, regardless if they have intentions to practice or not. Some, just to make a point. Also, usually but not always before when they get news of people not having intention to take the NLE, they equate it as someone trying to take shortcuts using their tourist visas. And they are usually correct.

Thats easy for you guys to say,

Unless , the website CABON has changed, for U.S. citizens studying here I don't see any reason to take the exam. In my case I have a social security number ,a U.S. passport and have lived in the US for over 20 years. In addition, I spoke to PRC and they are willing to write a letter to exempt me from the exam.

So put your selves in my shoes. Why would I want to wait 4 months to get results of a license I'm never going to use ? Add another 4 months to get my ATT with California....That's a total of 8 months instead of waiting for 4 months . How about you guys not working for 4 months? How would you feel..

Please don't give me the excuse , "Well you decided to go to school in another country etc..etc..." Obviously if I had a choice I'd go to school in CA, and I'm not dumb either. My GPA through out San Jose state was a 3.5 including all my ANAT, MICRO PHYSIO. I got accepted to two schools USF and EVERGREEN, but I was on a wait list for a year. Who wants to wait an extra year of doing nothing. Fortunately I got in an accredited program here in the PI a couple of years ago and its been an awesome experiance. My nursing school has a 95% NCLEX pass rate . Thats darn good if you ask me. So again put yourselves in my shoes and give me a good reason to take NLE ??

Ca are being strict and unless you are exempt from taking the exam, ie have no Philippine passport then you can not sit the exam and need something from PRC. We have seen USC posting before that they have had problems with Ca and that they need to provide proof that they can not sit the exam, just writing a letter isn't enough anymore.

I think you must have mis-interpreted our posts. We never said that all must take the NLE no matter what. Non-Filipino Citizens were never allowed to take the NLE ever since, because the law only permits Filipino citizens to take it so foreign students are always exempted from taking it and State Boards has always waived that requirment when they gave a proper explanation and provide evidence.

Just that ever since this year, CA BRN has become strict in wanting proof of passing the NLE for all those eligible by Phil law to take it. Only those not eligible, such as students not holding Filipino citizenship are exempted from it.

I understand that the rumor that is alive now is that ALL are required to provide the NLE for CA BRN grant eligibility. That is not true of course and only applicable to Filiino citizens only and foreign students (non-Filipino citizens) are exempted from it ever since as explained.
