by amb123456 Jul 14, '11Hello- I am an RN in school to become an FNP. My question is, should I be working right now? I have a little over a year of ED experience before taking 2 years off because of a complicated pregnancy (hospital bedrest, NICU, preemie battles, etc) and am now in school full-time. Do you think it's beneficial to log a couple more RN years of practice during FNP school, or should I just focus on school? I am not worried about my personal experience level- more-so securing a job after the program is over.
Also- it's a post-masters program since I currently hold a masters, so I won't be writing a thesis or doing research during this program which will inevitably lighten the load. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

- Jul 14, '11 by Boonce1I work and go to school full time I work 40 hours a week you can do it you just have to be very organized. My kids and hubby know not to bother me while I study. Its not an impposible task. Once a month I have a do nothing day so I dont stress my self out. I work 8 to 10 hour shifts at work study on my days off and on my lunch break at work. It works I have a 3.63 GPA and I have been employee of he month my kids think I'm a Super Mom so thats all that matters any wayAPatriganiRN likes this.
- Aug 11, '11 by Trauma NP/PAI think it depends on the school. I got the FNP and PA from the same program and I worked full time the first year and part time the second year. It's very doable the first year. There was a lot more clinical during the second year though, almost 1200 clinical hours (not including actual school classes/studying), hence, I could only work 1-2 days a week.
