Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty (for non-RNs) MSN 2013

Hi All,

There doesn't seem to be a thread yet for pre-specialty applicants (the thread going now seems to consist mostly of grad entry), so I thought I'd start one! Any other pre-specialty folks out there? I am from Seattle and applied for the PMHNP track.

Looking forward to seeing who turns up!

bbcc - did they say when results for midwifery would be released?

Nope - I don't think the admissions department has any idea when the faculty will turn them over! I'll likely call back on Friday, right before I submit my other application, in the hopes that I don't have to.

Anyone who is going to visit next weekend from out of town... Mind sharing where you are staying?

I am having trouble finding a place that isn't completely booked. Thanks!

For the pre-specialty year, it is my understanding that we would be on campus one week per month. For the other part of the month, are we doing clinicals in Nashville M-F, listening to lectures/completing assignments, or both?

I am staying with a friend. Check out airbnb.com. you'll find something!

oau3: I booked at the Hampton Inn Vanderbilt (through expedia). I also saw an Extended Stay that got good reviews and was close by the campus.

Anyone know any info about the next wave of letters they will send? It seems like its died down since Saturday.

Well I thought that during the pre-specialty year we have class about three days a week with clinicals the other 1 or 2 days of the week. The year starts with more lectures per week and ends with more clinicals per week. At least that is how my interviewer described it.

Then during the specialty year is when the modified block format starts. We meet about one week per month for classes and then spend the other three weeks during clinicals at the site we are assigned to (or choose, for distance students).

Fairly sure hi616 is right on this one. I think you have to be on campus for the first year if you're pre-specialty. Pre-Specialty Entry | Master of Science in Nursing | Vanderbilt University School of Nursing

Thanks Sarah and kms!

So I was too excited to wait until the Open House next weekend to meet everyone so I started a Facebook group for those who were already accepted for this upcoming Fall 2013! (Search: Vanderbilt School of Nursing - Accepted Fall 2013, or http://www.facebook.com/groups/292954304167219/)

I see that the website says that non-RN students must be in Nashville for the pre-specialty year. But if I am graduating nursing school in May I will be an RN. So I'm not sure if I am required to relocate or not. I emailed ******* to find out more.
