NPs taking phone calls on weekends

  1. Hello everyone,
I am recent NP graduate working for a physician and was informed that I would not be paid 2 weekends per month taking calls approximately 10 hours per day. This issue of being on call was never mentioned in my contract and the doctor told me it was part of my salary. I would appreciate feedback if anyone takes calls on weekends and if an NP is supposed to be paid for this time.
    Thank you.

Yep - should be paid for. I take call every 4th weekend (along with 4 other mid-levels). We do phone calls only from 0700-1900 on Saturday and an occasional call from the physician on call on Sunday (in 6+ years, I've only been called on Sunday once). We get $400 per weekend call. Used to get $500 when we had to go to the hospital to see pts.
