FNP relocating to Tampa Bay Area, any advice?

  1. Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about moving from NYC to FL because I want to slow down and enjoy life for a change while working in a field that I love and admire. I have been working as a Med/ Surg/Tele RN for the last 6 yrs and a FNP for just over a yr. I would like to just work as an NP from now on. Does anyone have any advice on where I should apply based on my experience? I applied to TGH for a cardiology position but they wanted NP cardiology experience I guess. I don't know FL at all except for vacationing. Thank you so much for your advice.

Check out the environment. I looked at the area and it did not seems NP friendly to me. Go to any urgent care website for the area and they boast things like, "100% MD staff - you won't have to settle for seeing a nurse". Business driven marketing, but not very NP friendly.

Wow, really? They treat us like that? That's not right. That's a very good idea though, I will go and check out the area especially in person. I have a 2 wks vacation coming up in 5 weeks. Thank you so much for your reply.
