First FNP Job

Hello All! I just accepted my first FNP gig in a primary care practice. Any advice from more experienced FNP on what clinical resources, tools, software were the most useful starting out in practice? Any advice on time management, documentation, pitfalls, etc.? Scared to death (that's appropriate, right?).

Congratulations on your first gig!!

UpToDate is a must! I'm fortunate that my practice has a practice account with it. What kind of EHR do you use? I found I probably over-charted on my initial visits, but that is something that you will learn to balance as time passes.

I'll echo what other's have said...UpToDate is an absolute must. I found myself referencing it hourly when I first started out in primary care, and still probably look something up on it once or twice a day in my current role. There really isn't a better source out there with more relevant info.

I also use the free version of epocrates when looking up recommended drug dosages and treatment lengths. UpToDate will often have the same info, but on epocrates its more readily available so long as you know the drug you plan on using. After a while you'll just be referencing it to double check yourself more than anything.

I have yet to make it through a day without looking something up on Up to Date. I print out what I use most and have folders of those articles in my desk.
