Autonomy of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in D.C.

  1. 0 I have spoken to the BON in DC to clarify some questions regarding the scope of practice for the NP in Washington, DC. It is my understanding that the NP is autonomous in DC with a restriction on writing refills on narcotic prescriptions. Meaning that, each time the patient needs a refill on a narcotic there must be a subsequent visit. I was also told that there were additional restrictions placed on the psych NP by the DC Dept. of Mental Health, can someone share their experiences as a psych NP in DC and shed some light on these questions? Thank you.
