I actually had one hospital call my neighbor (who was a PICC nurse for them) and ask her to come knock on my window cuz I wasn't answering my phone!

Now that's taking it a bit too far.

The nice thing for us is we have a text message system and they just text everyone, and if anyone wants to, they can call back. Otherwise, the harassment isn't there. If they are really desperate, they'll start calling and begging, but it's just easier to mass text. Sounds like some of you are stalked!

Yikes! Stalker employers...that is nuts! Please tell me your neighbor told them "HELL no!" when they asked her to knock on your window.

The "do not call list" isn't an option on my unit. They call everyone and there is no incentive if we accept to go in for an extra shift.

I love getting called on my day off. The fact that I get overtime at 1.5 times my wage is awesome. How many jobs can you can 51-64 dollars an hour? I question why people get so upset over getting called. If you don't want extra shifts put your name on the do not call list.

lol robot blasts thats crazy. Another favorite of mine is when i work 7p-7a come home in the morning fall asleep and going back in for another 7p-7a shift and they call me at like 1 pm asking me if i wanted to come in 4 hours early and basically work 3pm to 7a...

How about when you've just worked the night shift and are returning tonight and you got home late/just fell asleep and then they send out a robot blast call at 12pm that wakes you up asking if you want to work tonight? The day that happened was the day that I blocked the robot number from calling my phone.

I screened calls from work when I worked in the hospital. I was too nice for a long time and I quickly realized they were taking advantage of me. After one day when I agreed to come in and work a night shift on short notice and then they wouldn't hold up their end of the bargain and give me off the shift that I wanted off in return, I decided I wouldn't do them any more favors. And for the next two years unless they were calling with a deal that worked for me, I wasn't bending.

It's not easy for me to say no when work calls me. I work in Home Care, and unlike hospitals and LTC where if you don't come in you have your co workers just working short, or they have 10 other people they can call yet. These clients do not have people coming at all to help with their needs if someone can't pick up that shift. Plus we only have maybe 5 or so people that work with one client. So sometimes work can be desprate because they might only have 3 people that can take over a shift because lets say one of the care givers calls in and another can not because they are already working with another client. So it is really hard for me to say i can't when I think that the client will not get the help they need.

I got jumped on for that.

I have been on all sides of it including when I was busy with a needy client all night and then was required to stay with her until 2 in the afternoon because no one was coming in.

Someone else would have been delirious.

As it was for me, the staff in that building had no idea how tired I was.

I think if you take a job in home care you have to be ready for the stress and the demands that go along with it. The same is true in a hospital or nursing home.

I know that the nursing job is very noble and we should help other people. but we should also keep ourselves balance with work, home and self. IMO

At our facility, if we can't or won't be coming in, it's appreciated that we don't call back.

Calling back when we won't be accepting the assignment is a waste of everyone's time.

For management, it just takes resources away from the effort to get a fill in.
