My understanding is that the hurricane had a profound affect on thousands in the area? People without power, transportation impaired, schools out, etc and the area remains not completely recovered? So I was thinking the stress of this event, plus the turmoil it caused could possibly have made people more susceptible to commutative illnesses? It was just a thought. It was something different that happened this year and the % of influenza cases are much higher this year.Kareylea likes this. - Jan 12 by morteI thought your point was easy to discern....but then again I am old also....lol.Quote from olddraggerto clarify concerning my reference to Hurricane Sandy.

(not actually that funny, but that's all I got to choose from. We don't have any decent emoticons that are worth anything like we used to ...totally miss the blue barf, and the one that tapped it's fingernails on the table with an annoyed look on it's face)

- Jan 15 by Esme12Quote from CrunchRNIt may be a nurses forum.....but it is a public one as well. We have members that are not nurses and are patients, students and families....from all over the world. Allnurses supports debates as long as everyone is respectful. It gets very tiresome having non-nurses come on here and tell the actual nurses how we should behave on a NURSES forum.
I remember a flu season years ago...we had a resident go out to the waiting room and told everyone with aches, fever., and a cough to go home and rest. we of course told him he couldn't do that...LOLKelRN215 likes this. - 1:03 pm by fourthmlThat was a very polite way to tell you to take your conspiracy theories somewhere else!
- 1:05 pm by CrunchRNWho me? I don't have any. If you read closely my whole point was that I was poking fun at the conspiracy theories. I have been getting my shot every year for the last 20........................
- 1:26 pm by Joe VMy son just missed 3 days of school because of the flu. He's finally improved. Should be going back tomorrow.
We thought he had the flu shot last year (got many) - he didn't. He and his brother are scheduled to get thier shots next week. - 1:31 pm by DoeRNYes, and I had a flu shot and sure enough I'm + for the flu. It sucks but I seem to have a milder version. I had several flu patients the last couple weeks and one visitor who stood outside one patient's room and coughed right in my face as I instructed him to put on a mask. I quickly educated him on respiratory hygiene. And I am upset because I would have had 2 days of OT this week too.
