There's at least one in every bunch. You know the type. They have brown-nosing perfected as an art. After all....they practice it every chance they get. Tell us about the brown-nosers in your workplace and what they do that gets on your nerves.

What do the brown-nosers do to get on my last nerve?

They engage in petty tattletaling as a way of gaining favoritism from management. And nobody likes a tattletale, as evidenced by the "snitches get stitches" chant.

What exactly IS a brown-noser? That is my question. I have been called a brown noser because I am involved in leadership committees with the leaders of the hospital and have close relationships with my immediate manager, the DNS and even the person in HR. Just because I choose to take the extra time, on my days off, to help process change, in the eyes of many makes me a schmoozer. The sad thing is, I do it to protect us (the nurses), and give the leaders a reality check on what process will work and what process will not.

On the opposite of that, I also sit on union negotiations and have gone toe to toe with the same people during negotiations.

If one has a decent relationship with the management, is one is considered a brown-noser?

Not quite...(at least to me!).

A brown-noser 'kisses the butts' of management, stands for nothing with the hope of becoming someone's personal favorite, sells his/her coworkers out, and will stoop so low as to sell his/her own soul to gain favors.

They will trip over themselves in front of admin and corporate to the point of embarrassment; love to stir up drama and finger point...yeah know them and are annoyed by them, lol. :sarcastic:

Call me clueless then. I guess I have never worked with one that is a true brown noser!!

I have joked about being a brown-noser at times. I volunteer to do things and I get things I want when I ask appropriately. I never throw anyone under the bus, I don't ask for special things, just things like a schedule preference (I hate nights). I am a relatively new nurse so I am not as burned out and jaded as some, so I enjoy going to a conference or doing an audit. I like to know what is going on. I like having a good relationship with administration. They aren't the "bad guys". I like my job and want to make it easier, not harder for my manager.

If you make a comment about short-staffing in the presence of a brown-noser, she will cut her lunch short and break her leg running to tattle to the manager. She's the one who wins brownie points by short-staffing the next shift(but manages to maintain a full contingent on her shift). She will call the manager at home if you start writing a safe-staffing report. She's the one who goes on about "Oh, we're so over budget" when she's never actually seen the budget. The sad thing is, she gains nothing but the mistrust of her coworkers. She doesn't get invited to swim in the manager's pool or drive her Lexus. She doesn't even get an extra dollar in her pay envelope.:no:

There are quite a few brown-nosers on the unit I work on, everyone hates them and finds great joy when they mess up.

There aren't really any brown nosers on my shift. We have a lot more rebellious types that go out of the way to not do things that management asks us to do. Management just attempted to trial hourly rounding paper sheets in our ICU (really?!?! I am in my patient's room way more than once an hour usually, why make me fill out a paper). We have locators on that show where we were. Most of my coworkers wrote, "See locator" on the first line and put ditto signs all down the rest of the page instead of actually filling it out with times... it was pretty funny. We are a nonconformist bunch.

Oh yeah I know P-L-E-N-T-Y of brown nosers. They spend so much time telling on others or trying to see what everyone else is doing they have no time for their own job. While it earns them nothing money wise I have seen exceptions be made for them with vacation, attendance, etc that others do not. I'd rather do my job and keep some dignity.

I actually get on the brown-nosers nerves, especially when they don't do their job or claim they don't or didn't have time, especially with troubleshooting issue that I end up

having to deal with it on top of the shift work I need to do; my dignified questions are times not "appreciated", lol :sarcastic:

My saving grace is that the director is not so pleased with the brown noser while appreciates my work ethic. :nurse:
