I always need to know where my keys are, even at 3am.

    I guess it's a psych thing.

I was at my friend's house, playing with her 6 month old. She needed a diaper change so I scooped her up, put her on the changing table, the whole time chatting away to her mom.....and then I froze because there were no gloves to be seen. The idea of changing of a diaper without them seriously disturbed me lol The fact that the baby is pink, giggling, and has a head full of hair did nothing to quell the "don't do it, that pee is tainted with chemo and the poop is probably positive for adeno!" voice in my head.

My friend thinks I'm insane now. Oh, the stories I could tell her.....
Now that is hilarious to me because I'm from the 'old school' where we didn't HAVE gloves for anything except surgery. (That's right, diapers, incontinent adults, Yankauers- no gloves, because 'gloves are expensive') My co-workers are horrified by this.

Bottle/jar caps open end up when I open them and put the lids on the counter top. Even my old Chemistry professor recognized it & kidded me about that nurse eccentricity when I was opening those liquid bottles in Chem lab.
THIS and I'll bet you "lip" the bottle of disinfectant before cleaning boo boos like me! [/SIZE3]

Let's see...Every cut or scrape is immediately irrigated, covered in ABO and a dry dressing, with all my supplies nicely laid out on a paper towel - for my dogs too. I wear gloves when handling raw meat. I dispense pills into the bottle's lid, even if it's just a Tylenol for me. I talk about poop and gangrene while eating. As someone else pointed out, all jar lids are inside up when I lay them down. I use an applicator for creams and stuff so I don't contaminate the entire container. I also knock on my own bedroom door before entering, and have almost said, "Nursing!" before I went in. My friend broke her leg a couple weeks ago, and every time I see her, I make her wiggle her toes to check CSM. She won't let me pinch her toe though. My son hates it when he has to wash his hands, because Mommy makes him do it right.

I use antibacterial dish washing liquid and wash my hands with antibacterial soap before taking dishes out of the dishwasher and putting them away. If I have a cold, I do not shake hands or touch other people's pens without washing mine. However, I am quite the opposite when it comes to my own health as I figure that if I have made it this far I am good.

On another note, I cannot stand things that make alarming or beeping noises: alarm clocks, microwaves, telephones, etc must either be on silent or shut off ASAP. I can count on one hand the number of times that I have not woken before my alarm.

Here I thought it was just that I always lose my car keys at home, but that makes sense.

It's a med cart thing. Esp if the DON (supervisor) walks by & sees them. She'll pocket them just to teach you a lesson & make you sweat!

    You'll never do it again!

Yep, or they go into your narc drawer and take a handful of narc cards back to her office and then you have to go get them....or they get thrown on the floor and she'll stand there till you get back.

Your DONs have more time on their hands than mine does...
